Date Night 2.0

Second Saturday of the Month, 5:00pm - 8:00pm
Pender Dr. Office & Community Center
Registration Cost: $35/Couple (includes all dates and book)
Free Childcare with Registration

The Healing Center is pleased to announce that we will be bringing back Date Night. Last year, the purpose of the 10 Great Dates program was to help couples build their relationship through dating. Each Date Night will include a brief word of encouragement, and an overview of the topic which will set the stage for discussion. Couples are then sent out for their own private date. Free childcare will be available for children up to age 11 (6th grade) beginning at 4:45pm and ending 8:00pm.

This year we are adding a new dimension to the Date Night Program, Date Night 2.0. These dates are crafted to help you connect faith, love, and marriage in ways that result in a deeper spiritual connection—in a fun, grace-filled, safe format. Engaged couples, newlyweds and “oldy-weds” are encouraged to attend!

You may be feeling apprehensive or skeptical. Jack and I understand completely (as do the authors of the book). Many have the deep desire to connect more spiritually with their spouse but they may have found it difficult. If so, you are not alone.  It is time to put away your doubts, concerns, regrets, and should-haves, and join us on fun dates that can jump-start spiritual growth and put new excitement and energy into this very important aspect of your relationship.

The Dates will be held on the second Saturday of each month. Monthly attendance is not required; however, there is great benefit to participating regularly. Dates will begin at 5:00pm in the Chapel at the Pender Dr. office.

The cost of participation is $35.00 per couple for all Ten Dates and the book. There will be a chance to win fabulous prizes each Date Night. Please do not let the cost prohibit your participation, scholarships are available. Advance registration for Childcare is required. Registration details below.

Dates:

  • June 8: Guarding Your Heart Under God’s Canopy/Making Your Marriage a Light House

If you have any questions regarding Date Night, please email or call Kristin Colligan at kcolligan@churchoftheapostles.org or at 703-591-1974.

Child Protection Training

Saturday, April 13, 9am-1pm
Pender Dr. Office & Community Center

At Church of the Apostles, we believe that protecting children is a mandate from the Lord found in Matthew 18:5-6In order to safeguard our children and protect them from abuse, extensive training is provided for those working with children and youth and who have leadership responsibilities in other areas of ministry. This training is mandatory for all new Vestry members and workers in Children and Youth ministry. Also, we encourage all members of the congregation to consider attending as we believe knowledge is power and we have a moral obligation to protect God’s children. You can read Bishop John Guernsey’s letter commending the training as well as the Protection of Children Policy for the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic.

As one continues volunteering in various areas of ministry within the church, Child Protection training along with a background check is renewed every 2 years. To renew Child Protection training, one can take the training online through Ministry Safe or attend the classroom training here at Apostles or at All Saint’s Church, Woodbridge. Pam Marsh, parish secretary, manages the database and paperwork to maintain compliance with the diocese. She will send out reminders regarding the training renewal. The reminders come directly from Ministry Safe and are accompanied by a code to enter for you to log-in. Pam receives an email and documentation upon completion of the on-line training.

To register for the class, please email Pam Marsh or call the church office at 703-591-1974.  Please email Kristin Colligan if you have any questions.

Child Protection Training

Saturday, February 23, 9am-1pm
Pender Dr. Office & Community Center

Church of the Apostles believes that protecting children is a mandate from the Lord, found in Matthew 18:5-6. “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”

In order to safeguard our children and protect them from abuse, extensive training will be provided for those working with children and youth. We have been diligent in providing training. This training will continue with the addition of the newest guidelines and policies required by the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic. All staff, vestry, ministry leaders, TPM prayer ministers, Sunday School teachers, Student Ministry volunteers, and all others involved in Children and Student Ministry ages 16 and up are required to attend.

Also, we encourage all members of the congregation to consider attending as we believe knowledge is power and we have a moral obligation to protect God’s children. You can read Bishop John Guernsey’s letter commending the training as well as the Protection of Children Policy for the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic here. 10 Great Dates to Revitalize Your Marriage

Saturday June 16, 5:00 - 8:00pm
The Pender Dr. Office & Community Center
Registration required - $25
C
hildcare available by reservation

This month's discussion topic: Achieving and Intentional Marriage

Children, Family and Healing Ministries is pleased to announce 10 Great Dates to Revitalize Your Marriage. 10 Great Dates is a book and video course by David and Claudia Arp which helps to spark romance, enhance communication and builds stronger marriages. Each Date Night will include a brief word of encouragement, and a short video that sets the stage for discussion, couples are then sent out for their own private date. Childcare will be available by reservation for children up to age 10. Childcare begins at 4:45 and ends at 8:00pm.

The biblical concept of marriage involves the oneness between a husband and wife that reflects the oneness of Christ with His church. We encourage participation of all married couples of all ages and stages: from newlyweds, couples knee deep in parenting to empty nesters to participate. Each stage of marriage brings its own joys and challenges.

Dates will be held on the third Saturday of the month through June, 2018. Topics do not build on each other, therefore you do not need to attend each one: however, there is great benefit to participating regularly. Dates will begin at 5:00pm in the Chapel at the Pender Rd. office and begin with a word of encouragement and a 15 minute video before you leave on your personal date. There will be a monthly drawing for a restaurant coupon, entertainment coupon, or marriage resource book.

The cost of participation is $25.00 per couple for all Ten Dates and the book. We will provide the book to you on your first date. Please do not let the cost prohibit your participation, scholarships are available. Advance registration is required. Please register by one week before your first date so that we can plan for enough materials and adequate childcare. Please register below. The fee is payable online.

Childcare

Childcare will be available for kids 10 and under and the fee is a donation. Pre-registration is necessary and then again each month in advance. Initial registration for childcare is here.   Date Night childcare will open at 4:45pm and you will pick up your child at 8:00pm.

Childcare will be provided by well-trained teenagers and they will be overseen by Abigail Klein our nursery/childcare coordinator. The money donated to the childcare will go towards the Apostles teens’ mission trips in 2018.
