Pender Dr. Office & Community Center
At Church of the Apostles, we believe that protecting children is a mandate from the Lord found in Matthew 18:5-6. In order to safeguard our children and protect them from abuse, extensive training is provided for those working with children and youth and who have leadership responsibilities in other areas of ministry. This training is mandatory for all new Vestry members and workers in Children and Youth ministry. Also, we encourage all members of the congregation to consider attending as we believe knowledge is power and we have a moral obligation to protect God’s children. You can read Bishop John Guernsey’s letter commending the training as well as the Protection of Children Policy for the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic.
As one continues volunteering in various areas of ministry within the church, Child Protection training along with a background check is renewed every 2 years. To renew Child Protection training, one can take the training online through Ministry Safe or attend the classroom training here at Apostles or at All Saint’s Church, Woodbridge. Pam Marsh, parish secretary, manages the database and paperwork to maintain compliance with the diocese. She will send out reminders regarding the training renewal. The reminders come directly from Ministry Safe and are accompanied by a code to enter for you to log-in. Pam receives an email and documentation upon completion of the on-line training.
To register for the class, please email Pam Marsh or call the church office at 703-591-1974. Please email Kristin Colligan if you have any questions.
