Church of the Apostles believes that protecting children is a mandate from the Lord, found in Matthew 18:5-6. “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”
In order to safeguard our children and protect them from abuse, extensive training will be provided for those working with children and youth. We have been diligent in providing training. This training will continue with the addition of the newest guidelines and policies required by the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic. All staff, vestry, ministry leaders, TPM prayer ministers, Sunday School teachers, Student Ministry volunteers, and all others involved in Children and Student Ministry ages 16 and up are required to attend.
Also, we encourage all members of the congregation to consider attending as we believe knowledge is power and we have a moral obligation to protect God’s children. You can read Bishop John Guernsey’s letter commending the training as well as the Protection of Children Policy for the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic here. Please email Kristin Colligan at kcolligan@churchoftheapostles.orgif you have any questions.
