Bishop Guernsey was with us as we focused on Paul’s words in verse 9, that the Corinthians would prove that their love was genuine by participating in this offering. Our hearts are revealed by where we place our treasure. How we handle our money has a remarkable formative effect on our hearts, much more powerful than anything we can say. When we give sacrificially, we imitate Christ, who became poor for our sake. As Paul says, this very act of giving increases in us the desire to give and trains us in Christ-likeness, giving an authentic witness to the world.
